Islamabad : Some political parties and Hindu groups in Pakistan are furious over the kidnapping and alleged conversion of Hindu girls in Sindh province.

The Human Rights Club, Young Hindu Forum, Minority Commission of Pakistan, Awami Jamhoori Party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Pakistan Hindu Council and Aurat Foundation held a demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club Sunday, the Daily Times reported Monday.

They alleged that a Hindu girl, Rinkal Kumari of Mirpur Mathelo town, was abducted and forcibly converted to Islam. Another girl, Asha Kumari, was kidnapped from Jacobabad about a month back.

Pakistan Hindu Council chief Ramesh Vankwani alleged that a Supreme Court directive for the recovery of Asha Kumari has not been followed by the police, the Dawn reported.

He said another Hindu, Gangaram Motiani, president of the Hinglaj Mata Shewa Mandli, was kidnapped by men in police uniform in Bela area of Balochistan April 6.

The incident took place ahead of one of the largest annual Hindu gatherings at the Hinglaj Mata temple, he said.

Holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans, the demonstrators said a conspiracy was being hatched to expel the Hindu community from Pakistan.

According to the Pakistan Hindu Council, Hindus constitute around 5.5 per cent of Pakistan's 170 million people. Of them 94 per cent live in Sindh while the rest are distributed in Punjab and Balochistan.

The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) is on the lookout for a local priest from Yavatmal district suspecting that he might have instigated a youth to stab a constable in a bid to register protest against the beef ban imposed by the state government. The incident took place on September 25 this year, on the day of Bakr-id, when Abdul Malik (20), an unemployed youth from Pusad village in Yavatmal, repeatedly stabbed a constable after offering namaz at a local mosque. The constable was on duty, posted outside the mosque. He survived the attack. While stabbing him, an angry Malik allegedly shouted, “Tumhari government beef ban karti hai, toh yeh lo (Your government bans beef, so you suffer).” Malik allegedly also attacked two more constables who tried to intervene. Subsequently, Malik was overpowered by the constables and they seized his knife. Malik was immediately arrested by the local police and was slapped with a case of attempt to murder. Two days after his arrest, suspecting a larger angle of radicalisation at play, the state’s counter terrorism agency stepped in and took his custody. The agency is now probing if Malik had any accomplice and if more people have been radicalised by his handler, suspected to be a local maulana (priest).

Confirming the incident, Special Inspector General, ATS, Niket Kaushik told The Indian Express: “He (Malik) is in our custody and we are probing various angles.” The ATS suspects that Malik was trained on the lines of a lone-wolf attack. Sources said the police were on the lookout for the ‘maulana’ who might have instigated Malik to stab the constable. “During his interrogation, Malik told us that a local maulana radicalised him and therefore he stabbed the constable. The maulana allegedly told Malik that Muslims in India were under threat and that they should do something about it. He also cited the beef ban imposed by the state government and said it should be seen as a threat to their liberties. Therefore, he decided to stab the constable,” said a senior official. “Malik has also told us that the said maulana enquired if his parents would register a missing complaint in case he went missing for a couple of weeks.

He intended to send him on some ‘training’. We want to know what exactly the plan was. A manhunt to locate the maulana has been launched,” added the official. The agency plans to record Malik’s confessional statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. -

Bajrang Dal activist who forced closure of slaughter house hacked to death in Mangalore

Police said 29-year-old Prashant Poojary, a flower-seller, was hacked to death outside his shop, some 40 km from Mangalore.

A Bajrang Dal activist who actively participated in a campaign that led to the closure of a slaughter house in the Moodabidri region of Dakshina Kannada was hacked to death on October 9. Police have so far arrested eight Muslim men — four on Tuesday and four last Sunday — calling it a “revenge killing”, the result of “communal rivalry”.

Police said 29-year-old Prashant Poojary, a flower-seller, was hacked to death outside his shop, some 40 km from Mangalore. The attack was carried out by a group of six men who came on motorcycles wearing masks and wielding knives.

Before he died, Prashant revealed the identities of four of his assailants to his father Anand Poojary, police said. Mangalore police commissioner S Murugan identified the persons arrested Sunday as Mohammed Hanif (36), Mohammed Ilyas (27), Ibrahim Liyaqat (26), and Abdul Rashid (39), all residents of Dakshina Kannada district. On Tuesday, four more were arrested — Mohammed Sharif (42), Mustafa Kavoor (28), Mohammed Mustafa (25), and Kabeer (28). Police claimed Mohammed Hanif and the four arrested Tuesday carried out the attack on the morning of October 9. Before he died, Prashant named Hanif and one Imtiaz, who is said to be absconding, as the main assailants. Police said a search was on for more individuals involved in the attack. It is suspected that some have crossed over to Kerala.

“Prashant Poojary was actively involved with a pro-Hindu outfit. There were many clashes and he was attacked out of a communal grudge,’’ police commissioner Murugan said. Police said Hanif and Imtiaz used to work at a slaughter house in Moodabidri that had been forcibly shut down by Bajrang Dal activists, including Poojary, a few days before the murder. Police suspect the role of a member of a radical Muslim youth outfit in the attack. “We have no proof of their links to any outfit. One of the motives for the murder was Poojary’s interventions to disturb cattle trafficking,” Murugan said. Hanif and the others directly involved in the Poojary murder are also involved in a case at Handelu on September 9 and another assault case in Permude on October 3,” he said. In recent years, the Dakshina Kannada region has been witness to several incidents of violence over cow-politics. Nalin Kumar Kateel, BJP MP from Dakshina Kannada, said the murder was directly linked to the shutting down of a slaughter house in Moodabidri by a group of activists led by Poojary.

“After the illegal slaughterhouse was shut down, one of the accused, Hanif, made a provocative speech at the Moodabidri bus stand saying revenge would be exacted against all involved in the raid on the slaughter house. Prashant was murdered a few days later at the spot where the protest was held,’’ Nalin Kateel said. - See more at:
